the sea pearl + deserted island

January 29, 2010

Another perfect day at sea.    We spotted the Sea Pearl gaining on us as we were headed south on the river – so cool.  After a moment or two of chatting across the boats we followed them over to a small island – part of the chain of The Spoil Islands on the Indian River. We  walked the shore and looked for shells before heading back.

The Sea Pearl  – check out the wind in those sails.

Our little island.

living the life

January 28, 2010

I know I have only posted about the beach or sailing and I promise other photos will come soon – but for now it was too perfect of a day to not sail.  And for once I actually took the camera.    The best part?  When Jonathan and Petra took the C-Dory out and came out onto the river and met up with us.   How cool is it to have your friends boat up beside you to chat at sea?

The fishing life

January 28, 2010

Don’tcha love the new header?   That is our beach.  Tom is fishing with our newly acquired pole.  (which I then broke and we had to walk up the road and get a new one – I am a legend)

No one caught a thing that morning…but each day is a new opportunity.   Plus now we have two poles.  Double the chances of catching our dinner.

Here is Tom with Will – he is our fishing guru.

the sailing life: new sail, new day

January 27, 2010

As many of you know, we photographed Jonathan and Petra’s wedding a little over a year ago and were lucky enough to become friends with them.   Jonathan always offers us the use of his Foto Boat (which graced our Holiday card in 2008) and this year he acquired a brand new sail!

He and Tom put it on the other day and we set sail out in the Indian River.  Tom is becoming quite the sailor and really has a good feel for the wind.    I didn’t take the camera out with us but here are a few shots of the sail and boat.

I guess I just didn’t realize how relaxing, yet exhilarating sailing is.  Dolphins come up to the boat,  you can hear the birds call, and the feel of working with the wind is thrilling.   And we are just novice sailors – I cannot even image how it feels for guys like Jonathan – who sails from Florida to the Bahamas in a small Sea Pearl.

If you are ever in the Melbourne Beach/Vero Beach area, I highly recommend checking out Honest John’s Fish Camp. You can rent canoes/kayaks and small fishing boats,  drink a beer on the dock, watch dolphins, chat with locals, and see a piece of history.

the beach life

January 25, 2010

We have been in Florida now for a week and are thoroughly enjoying the warm air, the fresh produce, and the easy pace of life.   I will play a little catch up over the next few days but for now, here is one of our typical family photos.   We have a whole collection of “shadow” shots of the three of us from our travels.   I think the palm tree shadows make this photo.

Welcome to our Lazy Mornings

January 22, 2010

Hi.  Glad to see you here.  Hope you make it back often.  Would love hear your comments, thoughts, and ideas.

Not sure how to label this blog, so I won’t.  But one thing that is certain – we do enjoy life – especially our lazy mornings.  (preferably with coffee)
